Wellington has enjoyed a healthy winning edge since their provincial rugby rivalry with Taranaki began in 1894, but not all the stats have stacked up on the home team’s favour in recent times.

Round two of the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup in Wellington marks the Lions 100th home match at Westpac Stadium and their 33rd match against Taranaki since the national provincial championship format was introduced in 1977.

Although Wellington has won 14 of their last 16 matches against Taranaki, they are coming off a record defeat to the amber and blacks at the same venue last year.

There is also the lingering fact that Taranaki are in the Premiership division, while Wellington remain in the Championship.

We crunched the numbers ahead of Wellington’s Old Timers’ Day clash with Taranaki.
