Chris Boyd has confirmed that Richard Watt will be his assistant coach for the Wellington Lions in 2012. Boyd, recently appointed as the new head coach for the side, was delighted to retain the services of Watt. He explained, "Richard is a real asset to the team and highly respected amongst the players. He has good technical knowledge and is passionate about what he does. His experience with the side will be invaluable as we strive for the players to reach their potential individually and collectively." Watt has been with the Wellington Lions in a coaching role since 2010 when he stepped in to support Andre Bell as assistant coach. The former Wellington lock, made 18 appearances for the province and has had a long association with Poneke and Wellington Rugby. Watt also brings with him Super Rugby experience as he is the current technical advisor for the Hurricanes. Watt added, "I'm really looking forward to working with Boydy. I respect him as a coach and what he has achieved in his coaching career. The 2012 season will be a chance to work with a great bunch of young forward talent." |
