The Vodafone Wellington Lions are Wellington's top representative side, having won the former Air New Zealand NPC first division competition on four occasions - 1978, 1981, 1986 and 2000. Wellington has also experienced nine Ranfurly Shield tenures and many more heartbreaking challenges.

Some of the game's greatest players have represented Wellington, including Tana Umaga, Jonah Lomu, Christian Cullen, Andy Leslie, Ken Gray, Eric Tindill and Billy Wallace.

The current Vodafone Wellington Lions squad also has a significant representation of All Blacks in the squad.
